The 4175 model number was used for two distinctly different offerings in the K&E catalogs. From 1901 to 1915 the 4175 was an ivory sector. From 1936 to 1939 the model number was used for the Kurtz Psychrometric Slide Rule. Each type of rule will be described separately below:

History:

The 480 (Ivory) and 481 (Boxwood) Sectors first showed in 1881 and 1883 described as 6" models. In 1897 and 1899 the 12" 1749-7 (Boxwood) and 1749-8 (Ivory) models were shown. In 1901 the model numbers were converted to 4175 (Boxwood) and 4176 (Ivory). The sectors last appeared in the 1915 catalog.

The 4175 Kurtz Psychrometic Slide Rule

(1936-1939)

The Kurtz Psychrometric Slide Rule is 10" simplex slide rule with celluloid facings. The scales are designed for Air Conditioning calculations.

The 4175 model number was used previously for a Boxwood Sector in the 1915 and earlier catalogs.

History:

The 4175 Kurtz Psychrometric Slide Rule was first shown in the 1936 catalog. The last mention of the 4175 Kurtz Psychrometric Slide Rule is in the 1939 slide rule only catalog.
