History:

The 4092-3 and 4092-5 first appeared in the 1922 catalog. The 4092-3 family last appeared in the 1937 catalog. The following is a brief history of the 4092-3 family of slide rules as is told in the K&E catalogs that are available at this time. Exact timing is not possible because of the time between catalogs.

The catalogs between 1925 and 1934 show the 4092-3 with the N prefix, however there are no actual examples of slide rules with the N prefix. There are many examples of 4092-3s without the N prefix. It is believed that the N prefix on the 4092-3 in the catalogs is an error on K&E's part. There are actual samples of the N4092-5. Probably the dropping of the N prefix on the 4092-5 in 1927 was also an error.
