Collection of pages from K&E catalogs for the 4092 Family of Slide Rules
Description:
The 4092 slide rule is a duplex type of slide rule 10 inches long. This slide rule is one of the first with Log Log scales. The 4092 is constructed on a mahogany frame with celluloid laminated to the surface. Most samples of this slide rule do not have laminate on the top or bottom edge. The markings are engine divided. The first release was prior to 1909 but it is not shown in the 1906 catalog and the rule was shown in the 1921 catalog. It had the following scales:
- Front: A = B S C = D
- Rear: LL1 LL2 LL3 = C T CI = D L
All of the illustrations in all of the catalogs from 1909 to 1921 show the rule constructed with straight end brackets. All of the actual samples available have 'L' shaped end brackets. Probably the rule started with straight brackets and changed with out the catalog illustrations changing.
History:
The 4092 first appeared in the 1909 catalog. The 4092 family last appeared in the 1921 catalog.
A 4092 1/2 was mentioned in an instruction manual copyrighted 1914. The length of the 4092 1/2 is not stated but it is assumed to be 5". The scale set does not have the D scale on both sides.
4092 1/2 scale set:
- Front: A = B S C = D
- Rear: LL1 LL2 LL3 = C T CI = L
