The 4242 is a polar planimeter with adjustable tracer and pole arms. Refer to page 315 of the 1915 catalog for a good description of the instrument.

- 4242 1/2 -- (1936) Polar Planimeter with adjustable tracer and pole arms. The calibration rule has only English.
- 4242 1/2 -- (1954/55) Polar Planimeter with adjustable tracer and pole arms. Not as accurate.
- 62 0015 --- Polar Planimeter with adjustable tracer and pole arms with a tracer lens.
- 62 0020 --- Polar Planimeter with adjustable tracer and pole arms with a tracer point.
- 62 0022 --- Polar Planimeter with adjustable tracer and pole arms with a tracer point.
History:
Of the catalogs available the 4242 radial planimeter first appeared in the 1901 catalog. In the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s the 4242 and its variants became the standard adjustable radial planimeter for the K&E line.
- 1901 -- The 4242 was first introduced.
- 1930 -- The 4242 1/2 was first mentioned in the 1930 price list for the 1927 catalog.
- 1939 -- The 4242 had a single calibration rule with both English and Metric.
- 1943 -- Not Shown in the catalog.
- 1944 -- Not Shown in the catalog.
- 1948 -- Returned on the 1948 price list.
- 1949 -- Returned to the catalog.
- 1954 -- The 4242 1/2 model number is used again. This is a slightly less accurate version.
- 195? -- Between 1958 and 1960 the body was converted to a enclosed style and a tracer lens was added.
- 1962 -- Model number changed to 62 0015 and 62 0020.
- 1972 -- The 62 0022 is substituted for the 62 0020.
