Military Slide Rules
K&E Model 4108, American Blueprint, & Pickett Model 14
WW II through the 1950s Vintage
There were a series of slide rules produced by various manufacturers with the same scale set and titled "MILITARY SLIDE RULE". Even though there is a K&E model number for one of these rules, there is no official documentation from K&E on the rule. There is no mention of it in the catalogs.
- K&E Model 4108 --- Titled "Military Slide Rule". 10" rule on large wood frame like 4096 with special scales. It would appear that the K&E 4108 was the first issue. There are only a few of these to be found.
- American Blueprint --- Titled "Military Slide Rule". 10" rule on large wood frame thiner than the 4108. The second issue apparently was from American Blueprint. These are the most common rules.
- Pickett Model 14 ----- Titled "Military Slide Rule". Constructed on a Pickett N3 frame with the special scale set of the K&E and American Blueprint models. The back side of the rule has one side of the N3 scale set. The Pickett Model 14 appears to be from the late 1950s as it has the yellow ES finish.
- 16 Inch Bamboo Frame --- Titled "Military Slide Rule". The main scale is about 16 inches long. There is no makers mark. The frame is made of bamboo. The cursor looks like a Hemmi cursor design. The case is made of very heavy leather like the American Blueprint rule above.
A military instruction manual was produced with the title: TM 6-240, War Department Technical Manual, RULE, SLIDE, MILITARY.
The slide rule is constructed on a Mannheim style wood frame with celluloid laminated to the surfaces. The frame size is the same as the large K&E 4096 Merchant's slide rule.
